Punjab Helps More Kids Go to School with Cash Support
Punjab has reached a big success in helping kids go to school. Under the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif Program, 99% of the targeted students are now enrolled. This means thousands of children are now attending school regularly, thanks to the cash help their families receive every month.
This program is part of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). It gives money to poor families so they can send their children to school without worrying about school fees, uniforms, or books.
What Is the Taleemi Wazaif Program?
Taleemi Wazaif is a school support program for families already getting help from BISP. It’s made to keep kids in school by giving money every month. To get the support:
-
The child must be enrolled in a school.
-
They must attend school at least 70% of the month.
-
The family must already be part of the BISP Kafalat program.
The program gives more money for girls than boys. This is to help increase the number of girls going to school. Girls who finish primary school also get a bonus payment.
Big Success in Punjab
Between April and June 2025, Punjab aimed to enroll 240,000 new students. By the end of June, more than 238,000 children were already part of the program—reaching 99% of the target.
Here’s a quick look at the numbers:
-
Primary School: 196,000+ children
-
Secondary School: 38,000+ children
-
Higher Secondary School: 3,600+ children
This was possible because of the great teamwork between BISP staff and the Punjab Education Department. They visited schools, talked to families, and made sure every child was counted—even in far-away villages.
How Much Money Do Families Get?
Families get different amounts depending on the child’s class level and gender. Here’s the monthly support chart:
School Level | Boys (PKR) | Girls (PKR) |
---|---|---|
Primary School | 2,000 | 2,500 |
Secondary School | 3,000 | 3,500 |
Higher Secondary School | 4,000 | 4,500 |
Graduation Bonus (Girls) | — | 3,000 (one-time) |
This money helps families pay for school uniforms, books, and even transport. For many, it’s the difference between keeping their kids in school or not.
Why This Matters
This success in Punjab shows how much of a difference the Taleemi Wazaif program makes. It helps children learn, supports families, and gives girls a better chance at a good future.
More children in school means:
-
Fewer dropouts
-
More educated boys and girls
-
Less poverty in the long run
-
Stronger communities
Other provinces can now follow Punjab’s lead and aim for the same results.
What’s Next?
Punjab wants to hit 100% enrollment soon. The plan also includes:
-
Reaching more rural areas
-
Using digital systems to track attendance
-
Encouraging families to keep girls in school longer
With more support and smart planning, even more kids in Pakistan can get the education they deserve.
